It would have been near impossible to top the masterpiece double LP they released earlier the same year (1993), and this collection of songs recorded at the same time does feel like an addendum that falls a little short. That said, it has some songs that do measure up to anything on the first two albums, and is worth buying for those alone (“Uncle Joe”, “Evil”, “Bubble”). Not at all a bad album, and hey who doesn’t want to hear Kozelek’s interpretations of The Star Spangled Banner and “I Am A Rock”? His leftovers are still better than the best efforts of most others.
